Net Control Station
- Activate net with your call sign followed by the preamble.
This is W0KCN activating the KC Northland ARES emergency net.
This is a directed net operating in support of (agency) for the (drill or event) Stations with emergency traffic are given priority and can break in at any time with the words 'BREAK-BREAK'
Stations relaying information for the net are asked to contact net control.
All other stations please stand by during the course of this net.
All stations wanting to check in do so now. NCS can request stations use phonetics.
- NCS conducts a directed net.
- NCS asks for a NCS Backup and Liaison stations.
- NCS logs reports on the Northland ARES website. Can be delegated to Backup.
- NCS will instruct the Liaison Station to report that NORTHLAND ARES has activated it’s Net.
- NCS should have access to NWS radar to guide mobile stations. Can be delegated to Liaison station.
- NCS and Liaison will coordinate reports to be submitted to NWSCHAT
- NCS shall announce periodically conditions that meet reportable criteria.
1 inch (Quarter size) or larger hail, thunderstorm-related damage,
58 mph or greater winds, flash flooding, tornadoes, funnel clouds
- NCS can hold the air for emergency traffic only this way giving the operator the air to report the emergency to NCS. (Examples: funnel cloud-tornado)
- NCS will also take reports on the following but not limited to: Traffic signals out,
power lines down, conditions that are a safety hazard to public.
- NCS shall have the ability to modify guidelines according to the needs of the net
- NCS can use tactical calls (suffix of portable, mobile and fixed stations)
- NCS is recommended to use the net’s spotters to look at an area of concern from multiple directions, a team approach.
- NCS will inform any station checking in if there signal is weak to allow them to improve their station
- NCS can declare the net Free and Resume the net at any time.
When a warning has been issued, announce mobile stations have priority due to safety concerns.
Closing the net.
When agency or NWS does not require services any further, announce the following,
This is W0KCN, the KC NORTHLAND ARES net is now closed and routine amateur traffic may resume, followed by your call sign.
E-mail the log or confirm with Backup the log has been closed and e-mailed.
